End of Term Update

Tim Krusell

What have you done this term?

I have constructed the body of a RC car. I made it out of aluminum based on a design from make.com. I made slight modifications to the design and materials to adjust for what I planned to do and what materials I had on hand.

What was the biggest challenge for you this term?

The biggest challenge for me was getting used to working with metal. After spending so much time using exclusively wood, it was difficult to get used to the significantly different properties of aluminum and steel. Metal has less room for error because once a bend is made in the wrong spot it is there for ever and filing edges is time consuming and difficult.

What have you learned that could be useful outside of school?

The skills I have learned working with metal will be useful out of school. I have gained experience on both the foot shear and bending brake so I am now able to use these tools well. These skills will prove valuable whenever I may work with metal.

Of the things you have done this term, what would you like to do more of?

I like the bending of the metal to create shapes because it is interesting trying to figure out which bend to bend first and visualizing the final shape before actually having the thing done.
